What's in a quale? From phenomenology to its physical substrate and back
Webinar on Zoom. Video recorded on April 21, 2021, 5:00-6:15 PM.
Abstract:
Philosophers and neuroscientists often agree that a theory of consciousness should account for both the quantity and the quality of conscious experience. I will present the explanatory approach to phenomenology proposed by IIT using visual space as an example (Haun & Tononi 2019), and I will discuss ongoing and future attempts to explain other contents of experience (such as phenomenal time, concepts, and color).
Everyone interested is welcome to attend.
Participation is strongly recommended to students of the Doctoral School in Philosophy and Human Sciences and of the Doctoral School in Brain, Mind, and Reasoning.
The cycle of meetings is part of the didactic proposal of the Doctorate in Brain, Mind, and Reasoning.
Organization: Andrea Guardo, PhD.
